To provide access to academic resources and support student learning through academic advising, tutoring, and supplemental instruction.
Welcome to the Student Success Center! We are the hub of learning and academic support on campus. The Student Success Center (SSC) is about just that--student success, or to be more specific, your success. The professional advisors, administrative assistants, student employees, peer tutors, and supplemental instruction leaders are concerned about one thing: what they can do to help you succeed at Shawnee State University. Within the Student Success Center, you will find tables to study, computers for student use, professional academic advisors, and learning support in the form of academic coaching, peer tutoring, and supplemental instruction (SI).
Our professional academic advisors for University College, College of Professional Studies, College of Arts and Sciences, and College Credit Plus will help you navigate through your college journey and chart your course to graduation. In addition, they will assist you in applying to selective programs, finding the the appropriate resources needed for your success, and be your partner in your college success.
Our peer tutors and SI leaders are trained and are students who excel at the subject matter for which they are tutoring. NEW FALL 2018, we now have a dedicated space for our tutoring and supplemental instruction in lab 111 within the Student Success Center.
In addition to academic advising and our tutoring and SI program, we also provide several testing services. For currently registered students, we offer make-up testing arranged by your instructor. In addition, we provide placement testing using Accuplacer for students 21 and over and non-degree seeking students. We also offer proctored testingthrough PearsonVUE, ETS, Millers Analogy Test, and for students taking online coursework through other institutions that require proctored testing.
Students do not have to be seeing an advisor or getting tutoring or SI to visit the SSC. We have several tables where students can study alone or with a group. Upon request, dry erase markers can be checked out and students can use our dry erase boards for studying as well. We have one computer lab reserved exclusively for student use and a copy machine for printing and photocopying materials. In addition, students can check out calculators to use in other courses. Several times throughout the year, the Student Success Center sponsors meals and other events for students.
On our website, you will find links to contact our professional academic advisors, information about tutoring and SI as well as a links to request these services or become a tutor or SI leader. Additionally, you will find information about our testing services and College Credit Plus. There is also a FAQ page and student and faculty resources.
Call, email, or walk-in to get the help you need to be successful. We look forward to serving you and we hope that you will make the Student Success Center your "go to" place on campus when you’re looking for a friendly face and a place where you belong.
