Introducing SSUnet -- Shawnee State University's New Campus Wi-Fi Network

The Campus Wi-Fi network has been upgraded to provide a quality mobile experience for all Shawnee State students, faculty, staff and sponsored guests. The latest technology, faster speeds, and a simpler authentication process keeps you connected to all your mobile devices.

Our new campus Wi-Fi network is called SSUnet and is available in all academic locations, including offices, classrooms, labs, the library, and central campus green spaces. SSUnet is ready for you to connect at any time, and allows you to stay connected from building to building. The old Wi-Fi access points will be disabled effective, August 18th.

All SSU faculty, staff, and registered students can access SSUnet with their SSU Network Account. This is the same network account that allows you to logon to all University-owned computers and authorizes access to your campus email.

Efforts to connect SSUnet to Nursing's Hatcher Hall are in progress. Alternate internet connectivity is currently available for this building.
To connect your mobile device, simply follow these 4 steps:

  1. Using the normal Wi-Fi connection process for your device, select SSUnet, the Shawnee State University wireless network.
  2. You will be prompted to enter your SSU Network username & password. If you are not prompted, open your web browser and you will be redirected to the login screen.
  3. After successfully providing your SSU Network username & password, you must accept the terms of the Campus Network Use Policy.
  4. Select "Continue".

You are now connected to SSUnet and you will be able to roam campus without reconnecting. After an extended period of inactivity or when you leave campus*, you will need to repeat these steps to reconnect to SSUnet.

*Wi-Fi connectivity in the campus housing units is provided by Time Warner Cable therefore; SSUnet connectivity does not extend to these areas. Students will lose connectivity to SSUnet and will need to connect to the student housing residential network from these locations, and then follow the above steps to reconnect to SSUnet again, when returning to campus.

If you have any questions regarding SSUnet or would like assistance with your Wi-Fi connection, please contact the UIS Help Desk. UIS is located in Administration 035 and can be reached by email at or by calling (740) 351-3538.
